TIA PARNELL | CONTEMPORARY REALIST
Paintings shaped by light, shadow, and subtlety.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Contemporary Realism
Uncovering quiet light in ordinary spaces.
Tia Long is a contemporary realist painter working in warm, restrained palettes. Her work explores interior light, softened edges, and the quiet tension between shadow and stillness. Rooted in observation and simplification, each painting seeks to hold a fleeting atmosphere in place, inviting the viewer to slow, to look longer, and to notice what might otherwise be overlooked.

In the Studio
In the studio, I move between documentation and distillation.
Edges are controlled.
Light is moderated.
The painting is reduced to its most essential atmosphere.
ā
I begin with close observation, studying how light settles across a surface and how shadow shapes form. Through gradual adjustments in value and temperature, composition is simplified and excess detail is removed. What remains is intentional, a balance between structure and softness.
The process is slow and deliberate. Layers are built, softened, and refined until the space feels settled. Each decision is guided by restraint, allowing warmth and stillness to emerge without force. The goal is not replication, but clarity. An image distilled to the quiet presence it holds.
